Ocular Shades

Ever heard of ocular melanoma or melanoma of the eye?  It’s not only important to see a  ophthalmologist once a year, it’s important to keep your eyes protected, especially if they are light in color.

Hats and sunglasses protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. A good pair of sunglasses should block 99–100 percent of UV-A and UV-B rays.  Be sure to read labels and/or ask a salesperson.

Now the fun stuff, sunglasses not only protect your eyes, they make a statement and can be very reflective of your personality.  Here are my picks for this season, from safe to sassy…

Safe (fashionably, that is): Well, maybe not the safest choice but you gotta have a little fun with your accessories. Tory Burch Rounded Sunglasses in Spotty Tortoise, bring out the highlights in your summer hair and go with anything. Very Jackie O. $149

Classic: Ray Ban’s Mirror Aviators will never go out of style.  They are cool and sporty and what’s hot is you can share them with your man. Make sure they are mirrored.  $155

Sassy?: Try Kate Spade’s Franca Cat Eye Sunglasses in pink! In line with this seasons bright color trend and a total Man Repeller? $128

If in Greenwich (here I go again), Rita Baum at the sunglasses counter at Saks Fifth Avenue is amazing.  She can look at your face and find the best sunglasses for you, including the ones you might never have thought you could pull off.  Go have some fun: rita_baum@s5a.com or 203.862.5333
